Understanding the Regime Tails

The Rarity Meter Regime Tails chart breaks the Bitcoin Rarity Meter into the five underlying signals that drive it, each plotted as its own line against Bitcoin price. Every signal measures how far one type of market behavior currently sits in the tail of its own historical distribution, so it reads how rare today's level is versus the rest of Bitcoin's history.

How It Works

The five regime-tail components are capitulation, profit-taking, peak regret, seller exhaustion and coins in loss. Each contributes a score for how unusual its present reading is, and the meter combines them into the single oscillator shown on the Bitcoin Rarity Meter. Plotting the tails individually shows which behaviors are behind a rare reading rather than only that one exists, so a spike concentrated in capitulation and coins-in-loss reads very differently from one driven by profit-taking. The signals come from Bitview's rarity model.

How to Read It

Lines near their baseline are ordinary conditions. Large excursions in one or more tails are historically uncommon and mark a stretched market. Read it alongside the composite Bitcoin Rarity Meter and price rather than as a standalone timing trigger.
